VR X-ray trainer: X-ray training made easy from CAT PRODUCTION
The VR simulation for dentistry was developed jointly by QM Interactive, CAT MEDIC, and Walser Werner Software, in collaboration with the vocational school in Munich and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Additionally, funding from the Bavarian Film and Television Fund (FFF) supported the development of the content and enabled the implementation of technical refinements. This ensured that the training was as practical as possible.
The VR X-ray trainer is used at ZFA vocational schools as part of a license model and offers valuable support not only in the classroom, but also for refreshing X-ray skills in medical practices.
After putting on VR glasses, the training participants find themselves in a virtual doctor’s surgery and face a virtual patient. In this virtual environment, they solve 14 tasks, which they practise directly on the jaw of their virtual patient.

Unique reference to reality
In the virtual practice, trainees solve a variety of tasks directly on the jaw of the virtual patient. The first challenge: selecting and assembling suitable parts of the X-ray film holder – followed by the correct alignment to the jaw and tooth for each application.
The elaborate modeling of the jaw area, the individual teeth and the roots of the patient’s avatar as well as the sophisticated animations provide a unique hands-on experience and make theoretical knowledge come alive in a practical way.
The jaw area, teeth and roots are based on the medical visualization expertise of
The VR X-ray trainer offers a safe space for anxiety-free learning and the direct link between theory and practice. The varied design not only supports the learning process, but also increases motivation.
